Orla Conlan
Account Executive
Orla has a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham. Her interest in infectious disease epidemiology and global eradication strategies inspired her to pursue a Masters in One Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Royal Veterinary College, where she gained a deeper understanding of the economic, historical, social, and political factors linking human, animal, and environmental health.
During her Masters, Orla specialised in virology and studied the mammalian adaptations in bird flu which facilitated its transmission to cows, and subsequently humans during the 2024/5 cow flu outbreak. Her research uncovered a novel mutation in the D1.1 genotype zoonotic spillover and supported crucial new insights to viral genomic surveillance, instrumental for early detection and forecasting of possible future pandemic threats. Orla authored an article on the subject which published in The Biochemist.
