Shannon Smyly

Account Executive

Shannon joins Zyme from Abcam where she was an Associate Scientist responsible for the reproducible manufacture of high-quality antibody-based products, including affinity-purified monoclonal antibodies and antibody conjugates produced using Lightning-Link technology. Outside the lab, she set-up a successful shadowing and mentoring scheme to support career development across the department.

Shannon has held various lab-based positions across life sciences academia and industry, including spending time at the Medical Research Council-Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC-LMB). Here she investigated the function of different ubiquitin chains by purifying and characterising numerous proteins – this work was published in Nature Communications. She has an MPhil in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, with a research project focused on optimising a method for detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms, in addition to a Medical Science Honours in Cell Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Whilst at UCT she was among the top 15% of students in her year leading her to become a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
